Shutdown-delayed trade data for December expected on March 6: Statistics Canada

OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says it is working with the United States Census Bureau and plans to release the delayed December merchandise trade data on March 6.

The data had been scheduled to be released on Feb. 5, but was delayed due to the U.S. government shutdown.

Statistics Canada, which uses U.S. import data to measure Canadian exports to the United States, says the release of the trade data for January that was scheduled for March 7 will also be delayed and that subsequent months will likely be affected as well.

A new publication date for the January data has not been set.

Statistics Canada says it will incorporate December data on Canada's exports to the United States in the fourth-quarter releases of Canada's balance of international payments, and gross domestic product, which will be published on Feb. 28 and March 1.

However, it cautioned that the results could be subject to larger than usual revisions.
