TORONTO -- Weakness in energy and financial stocks weighed on the Toronto market in late morning trading as Canada's main stock index lost ground.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 19.08 points to 15,781.32, after 90 minutes of trading.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 12.23 points to 22,860.66. The S&P 500 index was down 2.59 points to 2,552.65 and the Nasdaq composite index was down 2.65 points to 6,600.90.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 80.18 cents US, up from an average price of 80.01 cents US on Wednesday.
The November crude contract was down US$1.00 to US$50.30 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was up eight cents at US$2.97 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was up US$7.00 to US$1,295.90 an ounce and the December copper contract was up three cents to US$3.13 a pound.
