TORONTO - Canada's main stock index has made minor gains this morning as the loonie has lost ground.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 26.06 points to 15,833.23, after about 90 minutes of trading.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 40.67 points to 22,912.39. The S&P 500 index was up 2.65 points to 2,555.82 and the Nasdaq composite index was up 18.05 points to 6,623.85.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 79.79 cents US, down from Thursday's average price of 80.08 cents US.
The November crude contract was up 30 cents to US$51.75 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was up seven cents at US$2.93 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was up $1.70 to US$1306.30 an ounce and the December copper contract was up 11 cents to US$3.24 a pound.
