Stock indexes advance moderately, Canadian dollar up slightly

TORONTO - The major stock markets are showing moderate gains this morning.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 32.65 points to 15,737.65, after 90 minutes of trading.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 65.11 points to 22,622.71. The S&P 500 index was up 1.15 points to 2,530.27 and the Nasdaq composite index was up 4.29 points to 6,521.01.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 79.99 cents US, up from Monday's average price of 79.97 cents US.

The November crude contract was down 14 cents to US$50.44 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was down one cent at US$2.91 per mmBTU.

The December gold contract was up 20 cents to US$1,276.00 an ounce and the December copper contract was up one cent to US$2.97 a pound.
