TORONTO - Canada's main stock index ticked higher in late-morning trading today amid financial results from some of the country's biggest companies.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 9.69 points to 15,275.32 after 90 minutes of trading.
Shares of Canadian Natural Resources and Enbridge both gained ground after they reported higher second-quarter profits compared with a year ago.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 16.68 points to 22,032.92, the S&P 500 index was down 2.95 points to 2,474.62 and the Nasdaq composite index was slipped 7.04 points to 6,355.61.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 79.61 cents US, almost level with Wednesday's average price of 79.62 cents US.
The September crude contract was up 14 cents to US$49.73 per barrel and the September natural gas contract was up one cent at US$2.82 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was down US$3.40 to US$1,275.00 an ounce and the September copper contract was unchanged at US$2.88 a pound.
