TORONTO -- Gains in the financial sector helped lift Canada's main stock index higher in late-morning trading while U.S. stock markets also moved higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 22.62 points at 16,538.08.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 29.53 points at 26,414.30. The S&P 500 index was up 3.71 points at 2,909.29, while the Nasdaq composite was up 29.91 points at 8,005.92.
The Canadian dollar traded for 74.87 cents US compared with an average of 74.88 cents US on Monday.
The May crude contract was up 14 cents at US$63.54 per barrel and the May natural gas contract was down 0.8 of a cent at US$2.58 per mmBTU.
The June gold contract was down US$12.40 at US$1,278.90 an ounce and the May copper contract was up 0.10 of a cent at US$2.94 a pound.
