TORONTO - Canada's main stock index sank in early trading, while shares of some of the big names in the marijuana sector also continued to slide lower.
Aurora Cannabis Inc., which debuted on the New York Stock Exchange, was down 94 cents at US$7.75 on the U.S. market. Aurora shares were down C$1.05 at 10.37 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Overall, the S&P/TSX composite index was down 214.20 points at 15,198.50.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 431.43 points at 24,885.98. The S&P 500 index was down 44.55 points at 2,711.33, while the Nasdaq composite was down 143.25 points at 7,325.38.
The Canadian dollar traded higher at 76.34 cents US compared with an average of 76.31 cents US on Monday.
The December crude contract was down US$1.63 at US$67.73 per barrel and the November natural gas contract was up 5.3 cents at US$3.191 per mmBTU.
