TORONTO -- The influential energy and financial sectors weighed on Canada's main stock index which moved lower in late-morning trading.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 71.44 points at 16,029.50.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 18.51 points at 25,977.36. The S&P 500 index was up 2.82 points at 2,880.87, while the Nasdaq composite was up 36.15 points at 7,958.87.
The Canadian dollar traded up at 76.01 cents US compared with an average of 75.83 cents US on Thursday.
The October crude contract was down 60 cents at US$67.17 per barrel and the October natural gas contract was down 0.4 of a cent at US$2.77 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was down 70 cents at US$1,203.60 an ounce and the December copper contract was up 1.20 cents at US$2.65 a pound.
