TORONTO -- The financial, energy and telecom sectors helped Canada's main stock index higher in late-morning trading.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 58.77 points at 16,309.52.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 114.25 points at 25,301.95. The S&P 500 index was up 16.55 points at 2,838.48, while the Nasdaq composite was up 40.02 points at 7,859.72.
The Canadian dollar traded up at 76.42 cents US compared with an average of 76.13 cents US on Monday.
The September crude contract was up 85 cents at US$68.05 per barrel and the September natural gas contract was up 3.7 cents at US$2.97 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was up US$6.30 at US$1,205.20 an ounce and the September copper contract was down 3.2 cents at US$2.70 a pound.
