TORONTO -- Canada's main stock index was higher in late-morning trading, boosted by gains in the financial and industrials sectors.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 69.47 points to 15,690.94, after 90 minutes of trading.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 215.58 points to 24,145.73. The S&P 500 index was up 19.73 points to 2,649.46 and the Nasdaq composite index was up 79.80 points to 7167.95.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 77.76 cents US, up from an average value of 77.75 cents US on Thursday.
The June crude contract was up 56 cents to US$68.99 per barrel and the June natural gas contract was down two cents to US$2.71 per mmBTU.
The June gold contract was down 90 cents to US$1,311.80 an ounce and the July copper contract was down one cent to US$3.07 a pound.
