MONTREAL -- Walmart Canada says it is ending its involvement with a Quebec program that provides job training to people with intellectual disabilities or who are on the autism spectrum.
Company spokesperson Anika Malik confirmed the program would be phased out in the coming weeks.
She said the decision was made after a review that took into account legislative changes and Walmart's policies.
Malik said the decision did not amount to firing the employees, even though they are losing their positions.
She said the workers were participating in a voluntary program co-ordinated by local agencies to give them an opportunity to get involved in the workplace.
The company would not confirm how many people will be affected by the change.
