Toronto stocks move higher, while U.S. stocks mixed; Loonie falls

TORONTO - Canada's main stock index pushed higher Thursday, boosted by gains in the energy, technology and telecommunications sectors, while the Canadian dollar slipped lower.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 46.17 points to 15,699.78, after 90 minutes of trading.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 90.91 points to 24,849.03. The S&P 500 index was up 1.62 points to 2,751.10 and the Nasdaq composite index was down 1.38 points to 7,495.43.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 76.67 cents US, down from an average price of 77.26 cents US on Wednesday.

The April crude contract was up 16 cents to US$61.12 per barrel and the April natural gas contract was down five cents to US$2.68 per mmBTU.

The April gold contract was unchanged at US$1,324.40 an ounce and the May copper contract was down four cents to US$3.10 a pound.
