TORONTO - Canada's main stock index is up moderately in morning trading today, while its American peers continue to soar to record highs.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 48.23 points to 15,471.32 after 90 minutes of trading.
In New York, the three main indexes were up sharply and edged above their previous all-time highs.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 106.05 points to 21,288.58, the S&P 500 index added 11.13 points to 2,444.92 and the Nasdaq composite index was up 16.55 points to 6,338.32.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 74.43 cents US, up from Thursday's average price of 74.06 cents US.
The July crude contract was up 24 cents at US$45.88 per barrel and the July natural gas contract was up one cent at US$3.04 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract was down $10.40 to US$1,269.10 an ounce and the July copper contract was up two cents at US$2.63 a pound.
