TSX recovers from Thursday's decline, loonie stronger

TORONTO - Canada's main stock index posted a triple-digit gain in late-morning trading, a day after it recorded a moderate loss.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 163.51 points to 15,560.21, after 90 minutes of trading.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 27.29 points to 20,924.18. The S&P 500 index rose 1.70 points to 2,391.22, and the Nasdaq composite index was down 2.01 points to 6,073.33.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 73.04 cents US, stronger than Thursday.

The June crude contract was up US$1.00 at US$46.52 per barrel and the June natural gas contract was up four cents at US$3.23 per mmBTU.

The June gold contract was down 10 cents at US$1,228.50 an ounce and the July copper contract was up one cent at US$2.52 a pound.
