TORONTO -- North American stock markets are down in morning trading today with financial companies among the weak spots in Canada.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was down 50.98 points to 15,582.23 after 90 minutes of trading.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 96.27 points to 20,846.84, the S&P 500 index shed 12.97 points to 2,386.66 and the Nasdaq composite index was down 41.36 points to 6,087.79.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 73.02 cents US, weaker from Wednesday's average of 73.26 cents US.
The June crude contract was up 79 cents at US$48.12 per barrel and the June natural gas contract was up eight cents at US$3.37 per mmBTU.
The June gold contract was up $6.10 at US$1,225.00 an ounce and the July copper contract was up two cents at US$2.51 a pound.
